Trump’s Mistake On Military Gear For Local Cops

I will be perfectly clear- I do not like the weaponizing of American Police Departments with surplus military equipment; including rocket launchers, armored personnel carriers and rifles north of .50 caliber. Seriously if you need that kind of firepower then call the National Guard but I am confident that we don’t need to give local law enforcement aircraft that’s fully armed.

Like any other group- once they have them, they want to try them out from time to time. And honestly I don’t think we need tanks with local officers behind the wheels cruising down Main Street. President Obama was right to suspend this program after the riots in Ferguson, Missouri. President Trump would have been right to say no to this reversal.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions said this about the Executive Order lifting the ban, “Those restrictions went too far.” Sessions also added, “we will not put superficial concerns above public safety. All you need to do is turn on a TV right now to see that for Houstonians this isn’t about appearances, it's about getting the job done and getting everyone to safety.”

Yeah because nothing helps flood victims like the local sheriff’s department having grenade launchers!
