I knew there were quite a few children in Michigan who were on the subsidized school lunch program.  What I did not know was how many.

According to the Michigan Center for Educational Performance and Information as reported by Mlive.com, 45.9% of Michigan students received subsidized school lunches in the 2016-2017 school year.

That number seems awfully high which means the criteria in which a family can enroll for subsidized lunches is to low, we have a serious issue with the amount of good paying jobs here in Michigan or the citizens of Michigan do not have the right skill set for the good paying jobs that are available.

The only good news is that this is the 3rd year in a row that the number or children receiving subsidized school lunches has gone done.

For context in 2006 the percentage of children who received subsidized school lunches was 36%.
