Things to do around Michigan.

These places plan to remain open after Labor Day Weekend.
In the Upper Peninsula, at the base of the Keweenaw Peninsula (Michigan’s Western Upper Peninsula), the Adventure Mining Company in Greenland, MI is only a 30 minute drive from Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. Four different guided underground tours of one of the best preserved copper mines in Michigan. Walk through part or all of the tunnels on the first level or try your hand at rappelling with a rope and harness to the second level of the mine…the choice is yours! Not a place for flipflops! Also at the Adventure Mine site are miles of free-use hiking and mountain biking trails.
In the North, Wellington Farm USA is a living history complex that offers a unique look at life in a mid-western farming community during the 1930's. Costumed interpreters demonstrate a life style typical of the Great Depression.  Includes demonstrations of 1930's skills like blacksmith, broom makers, tack shop, etc etc
In the south, Grosse Ile has an alpaca farm that is the most visited spot on the island.  They produce fine alpaca products, but the big attraction is the Alpaca Stampede when it is time for treats. Check out  a link to a stampede video here:  https://vimeo.com/232807982
The island is reached across one of two bridges.  One is free and one is a toll road.  Around the island is some of the best Walleye fishing on the Detroit river.
