According to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources bats do a great job eating insects. This is very important for the state's agriculture industry because an insect infestation could lead to serious crop damage. Bats are said to be terrific at keeping the insect population in check.

But now it's being reported a fungus has been confirmed in Michigan and it's deadly to bats. The experts at M.S.U. say at least one bat has been diagnosed with it. It's called the White Nose Syndrome and if one has it there's no telling how may others might as well.

At this point officials do not know how to prevent the disease from spreading.
