VISA Warning About Buying Gas At The Pump

VISA, one of the credit cards trying to make your life easier, is not keen on card holders buying gas at the pump.

VISA is on it and trying to protect its card holders, and the company has issued two recent security alerts about cybercrime groups that have successfully hacked North American fuel dispensers, installed malware and has culled out what appears to be unencrypted card data. Some of these cyber groups are linked to targeted retail, entertainment, and hospitality industries before. The fuel attacks are a new area for this specific hacker group.

One big problem VISA says is that many gas stations don't use chip-and-pin readers on their pumps, so they just read the card's payment data from its magnetic strip.

According to newser, one analyst, who warned about this threat four years ago, says sometimes you are just better off paying good old cash.
