Great Lakes Are Greater Today
After many years of falling water levels the Great Lakes began rebounding in 2012 and 2013. Now the lakes, that represent 21% of the worlds fresh water are adding volume at an impressive rate.
In just the last 2 weeks the lakes have added over 5 trillion gallons of water to the total amounts in the lakes. That is a stunning amount of water. In fact lake Superior rose by nearly an inch adding billions of gallons.
The rapid increase came from a combination of heavy rains the Great Lakes watershed combined with spring runoff from melting ice and snow.
