Governor Whitmer Signs Law Regarding Unsafe Left Turns
Have you ever been behind a vehicle that made an improper left turn, perhaps even causing an accident?
I've witnessed that exact thing several times and it always ended with an accident on the road or the start of some kind of road rage.
These days people are more short-fused than ever before. There are so many bad drivers out on Michigan roads and you just never know what you're going to see on any given day.
Did you hear the latest? Governor Gretchen Whitmer has signed a law making unsafe left turns a civil infraction.
This from mlive.com:
VanSingel said a conversation with a prosecutor in his district is what prompted the legislation. The prosecutor told him someone had protested a citation stemming from a left-hand turn they made into a driveway that caused an accident, the lawmaker said.
Governor Whitmer signed the paper work for this new law on June 2. It had no problem passing in the House and in the Senate.
Mlive.com also adds:
According to the bill’s fiscal analysis, there is no way to determine the number of civil infractions that would occur under the new law. But the Michigan Vehicle Code requires defendants to pay a $40 justice system assessment per civil infraction. The revenue generated by the new bill would help support local libraries, while another portion is deposited into the state’s Justice System Fund.
So here's the bottom line:
Anyone causing a hazard on the roads by making a left hand turn onto something other than an intersection is now a civil infraction.
