SWAT Standoff in Laingsburg

Details are still sketchy, but police agencies including the Michigan State Police SWAT team, are on the scene of a barricaded gunman situation in Laingsburg.

The man, whose identity isn't being released, is apparently holed-up in a home with a weapon and is refusing to come out.  There is no word yet on whether anyone else in the house or whether any lives have been threatened.  Witnesses reported what they thought was gunfire.

Police are trying to negotiate with the man in hopes of ending the standoff peacefully.  They have blocked off area roads and are asking the public to avoid the downtown area for the time being .

Classes at district schools have been canceled for the day as well, according to them, simply as a precaution.
