Michigan to Get Vital Dredging Funding
Congress has allocated additional money to help the state cover the cost of dredging a number of Michigan harbors. The entire Great Lakes region will be getting nearly $47 million to get this important work done.
Dredging often becomes necessary when harbor water levels drop. When that happens it can be difficult--if not impossible--for ships to make their way through. It is crucial for trade and commerce that the ships carrying assorted goods are able to unload their cargo at a harbor port. If they are unable to do it the economic impact to the company that needs the delivered products--that in turn would be sold in the retail marketplace--would be considerable.
