When I was a kid, I loved ice cream! I am sure most of us did and still do. Even as a big kid I eat ice cream probably at least once a week. Most of us big kids also love another American favorite, which happens to include ice cream, and that would be a milkshake. Yes, they often have milk in them too, but great ice cream is a prime ingredient. There are about 40 flavors of ice cream available these days, and the milkshake possibilities are endless.

Some of the top flavors are vanilla, chocolate, butter pecan, and English toffee crunch. Back in the '80s, a place I used to eat at in Rockford Illinois featured a Purple Cow milkshake. Thick ice cream blended with grape juice. They were decadent. I am sure you have experimented at home making different concoctions of shakes. You will find several places here in Michigan where they are immensely proud of their variety of milkshakes.

I found ten places featuring their unique style of milkshakes. Here is a little tour with details and photos, it may be a bit of a drive for some of these places, but it is always worth the drive for a great shake!

This was a fun research project, always happy to help find great food. And the American Milkshake is something I will always cherish. And the cool part, you can make it any way you want. So next time you want to get out  taking a drive in our beautiful state, why not plan a milkshake destination. It will make your drive back home that much better.
