Lyme disease is a big problem where we are geographically speaking in Michigan. Kalamazoo County had the 2nd most cases of Lyme Disease in the lower peninsula in 2016 and it's important to know where most cases have been reported. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has released an interactive map of Michigan that allows you to see how many reports of Lyme Disease each county in Michigan has had.

Southwest Michigan has had the worst of it all, with Allegan and Kalamazoo both with 10 reports, and Berrien county with 24 cases, the second highest in the state all together. In 2017, there were more than 300 human cases of Lyme disease reported, and approximately two out of three cases reported exposure in Michigan. Although ticks can spread multiple illnesses, Lyme disease is the most commonly reported tick-borne disease in Michigan. Lyme disease is caused when the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi is transmitted by the blacklegged/deer tick.
