Traverse City’s Cherry Festival Is On, But Will Look A Little Different
An event that is normally the beginning of summer festivities in Traverse City is actually happening this year, but with a little different look. July is usually a very busy month for Traverse City, as the Cherry Festival is the one to kick off the month, while normally their Film Festival ends the month leading into August. Last year because of the pandemic, all festivals were cancelled, but this year they're planning on it actually happening. but if you do plan on going, expect it to a little less thrilling than in prior years.
The week long event is slated for July 3rd through the 10th, and the Executive Director of the National Cherry festival, Kat Paye, is hopeful for the events return, but tells News 9 & 10 they're ready for any kind of postponement:
Everything on our website, Cherryfestival.org, has a full calendar of events with a full disclaimer that anything could change at any time. We are prepared to back up on events or move forward on other ones like the parades and fireworks. We’re just making decisions as we need to and we’re looking forward to celebrating our 95th anniversary this year.
Attractions that WILL NOT be taking place at this year's event is the air show or any kind of concerts, however, fireworks have not been given the green or red light, so there is still a chance for those to be a part of the festival. Either way, let's hope there are no snags in their plan.
