Everybody loves to BBQ, but BBQ means different things for different people. Cooking Burgers, Hot Dogs and Steaks on the grill is often called BBQing. And yes, it has become quite a science to slowly cook and smoke the meats until they are so tender, they almost melt in your mouth. Some of the original styles of barbecue are thought to be those that originated in the easternmost colonies, like the vinegar-based “whole hog” barbecue found in Virginia and North Carolina. But when and where did the BBQ tradition get its start?

We can certainly explore the history of BBQ more, but digging into a plate of hot smoked meat sounds a lot more fun to me. When you can smell the meat smoking before you go inside, you know you have found a real BBQ restaurant.
