Secretary Of State Jocelyn Benson Says Michigan Election Results Expected Today
In a late night press conference Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said that the election results for the state could be known by Wednesday night.
In preliminary estimates, the state of Michigan announced that about 5.8 million Michiganders cast a ballot with 3.3 million of those ballots being absentee.
The absentee ballots along with counties that have larger urban centers like Wayne, Macomb, Kent, and Monroe are what are holding up the official vote count. This is par for the course as the Metro Detroit counties are notoriously slow at reporting their total vote counts.
The original goal post for the final vote count was to have everything counted by Friday, but it is looking like it will be much sooner than that. Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson remains hopeful that the final vote count will be before the end of the day on Wednesday.

The total numbers of votes cast in this election crushed the previous record of 4.8 million votes in 2016. So, an expected 700,000 additional votes were cast in this election with 28,000 being day of registrations and over 70,000 absentee ballots were spoiled.
Michigan has a total of 16 electoral votes that will be cast for either Trump or Biden and those votes could tip the scales and be the deciding factor in the 2020 Presidential Election.
