It was announced in Jackson this week that the city has drastically cut down the days that  commercial fireworks may be legally used.

According to WILX.com, this is a result of a new state law in Michigan that allows local municipalities to reduce the amount of days from 30 per year to 12 per year. Previously, the law said fireworks were allowed the day before and the day after federal holidays. Now, those days may be restricted by local governments to just Saturdays and Sundays of holiday weekends, as is the case in Jackson.

New hours are also in effect in East Lansing beginning this weekend for Memorial Day. Fireworks will not be allowed at all on Monday, only Saturday and Sunday between 11:00 AM and 11:45 PM, according to WILX.
