U.S. Representative John Dingell is back home today after having heart surgery yesterday. The operation was done at Henry Ford Hospital. Doctors say he had an abnormal heart rhythm called an atrial flutter. This is a condition where the upper chambers of the heart beat too fast. When this happens the chambers are also said to be ineffective.

Between now and when Congress goes back into session a week from next Monday Dingell plans to recuperate at home. He's now 87 and has been in Congress since 1955. No one has been there longer. He told us last month he will not run for re-election.
