With an abundance of snow and ice the state's sewer systems have really been taking a beating. And with melting and runoff in the weeks ahead that problem will certainly be compounded. Now it's being reported localities across Michigan are getting financial aid from the state to help make sure they continue working the way they should. Many of these systems are simply old and in need of repair.

The state has received quite a few applications for funding assistance. About $100 million are available now with nearly that much expected to be on hand next year. The money to cover the cost of these sewer related projects is coming from bonds that were issued earlier. The money will be provided through grants and loans.
