Man Fatally Shot On West Saginaw Hwy
I live on the west side of Lansing, and as I was driving into work yesterday, I saw something unusual. As I approached W Saginaw Highway on Creyts, there was a State Police car Blocking any traffic from going west on Saginaw, and it was cleared all the way down to Canal Rd. There were many State Police and Eaton County Sheriff vehicles on the scene.
Obviously, something serious was happening, but information was scarce at the time. Later in the day some details were finally released. The Sheriff’s office was responding to multiple reports of a man walking down W Saginaw Highway firing off rounds and pointing his weapon at cars. It happened in the 6500 block of W Saginaw Highway, right near the Kroger store around 8:25am. The road was closed and the investigation went well into the afternoon.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a 22-year-old resident of Delta Township had been traveling east on Saginaw Highway when he stopped near Brookside Drive. The male standing in the highway then pointed the pistol at him, according to police. The 22-year-old, a CPL holder, fired his pistol from his vehicle, striking the male, identified as a 26-year-old with a last known address in Walker. The gentleman who fired his weapon has been fully cooperating with law enforcement. We still don’t know the name of the victim, but we’re told further information will be updated pending next of kin notification.
