The Woodward Dream Cruise is one of the world’s largest automotive events, with a million fans and over 30,000 classic cars taking part in this event every year. It was created back in 1965 by Nelson House, who is a Ferndale resident. He looked to bring back the nostalgic days of the 50’s and 60’s. They do not call it the Motor City for nothing. The Dream Cruise always takes place along a 16 mile stretch of the famous Woodward Avenue. The usual route takes it through Berkley, Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Bloomfield Township, Ferndale, Huntington Woods, Pleasant Ridge, Pontiac, and Royal Oak, in metro Detroit.

The 2020 Woodward Dream Cruise was cancelled due to Detroit being a hotspot for Covid-19. Now another event has been scheduled in its place, the “MAGA Classic Car Cruise.” And it is happening on the same day and time the Woodward Dream Cruise would have happened. August 15th from Noon to 4pm along Woodward Avenue.

“The “MAGA Classic Car Cruise” is a pro-Donald Trump event. The biggest question is, will there be any disruptions and will it cause any COVID-19 risks? “We’re mixing Make America Great Again with what made Detroit great,” Rocky Raczkowski said. The event is being held by the Oakland County Republican Party. “To show our support for the administration, the police and fire,” Raczkowski said. “If anyone thinks we’re putting people in danger, it’s kind of ridiculous.”

The good news, it is an outdoor event. And people are free to social distance and wear a mask if they want to.
