Took a Chance at a Lansing Chinese Buffet, Am I Overreacting Here?

I just have a couple of questions and if I'm overreacting I'm sure you guys will let me know.

I made a decision to go and I accept my fate.

This past weekend while out running errands, I got hungry and decided I wanted Chinese. I was close to a local Lansing buffet so I thought about it for a second. I'm sure many of you have had to make a decision about where to eat and if you thought it would be safe with Covid-19 a steady constant in our lives.

I'm vaccinated and boosted. There are safety protocols in place. I was hungry.

I made a decision.

I parked and went inside.

Immediately upon entering and approaching the counter to pay for my meal, I was greeted by a man behind a plexiglass screen and he was wearing a mask.

We're off to a great start and I'm feeling better already.

Mind you, I wasn't disturbed because it was a Chinese buffet. That's just what I decided to eat. It's just a buffet and in the age of Covid-19, that's still got me a little uneasy. I have friends who still won't eat at a buffet of any kind for quite a while after all this.

I paid, went to the table, sat down, got water and iced tea to drink.

It was just a couple of things really.

Here are the two things that jumped out at me and where you can tell me to relax or if I have legit beef.

Before I even talk about if customers are wearing masks or using gloves to get food, most of the staff here were wearing masks. Except for the guys behind the plexiglass and cooking food on the grill.

There's plexiglass to separate us from them. But they are cooking food and giving it back to us. They aren't wearing masks. Why the plexiglass then? Why are all the other employees wearing masks but not the guys on the grill?

Just me?

Then there's this.

Remember that iced tea I ordered. I drank it. I got asked if I wanted a refill. I said yes. The waitress (who was wearing a mask) took my glass with my straw still in it to the back area where they do their stuff and there's a fountain pop machine. I don't know if the unsweetened ice tea came out of that machine or if she poured me a refill from a pitcher. However, she used the same glass with my same straw. And brought it back to me.

We have to get a clean plate every time we go back up to the buffet. But you took my used glass and refilled it. If I have a cold or Covid and you took it back...do you see where I'm going here?

I made a conscious decision to go there.

I paid for and ate the food both from the buffet (where patrons without masks and gloves got food) and from the grill where the unmasked gcooks prepared the food.

Then there's the glass of tea thing.

Did I make a mistake coming there? Am I overreacting? If I have no problem with the people getting food with no protection, why am I worried about the guys cooking and the waitress taking my glass of tea back and refilling it without giving me a clean glass?

Inquiring minds want to know.

So does my paranoia.
