Officials are warning of a salmonella outbreak, linked to pet turtles. The CDC has said that 21 people in nearly 13 states have fallen ill after coming into contact with pet turtles

No deaths have been reported to officials at this time according to WILX; however, seven people have been hospitalized because of it.

The CDC is recommending that if you're going to have a pet turtle, that you have no child under the age of 5 in the house, or someone with a weaker immune system.

Any turtle can carry diseases, and if you do come in contact with a turtle, or any reptile for that matter, you should make a habit of washing your hands afterwards.
