Deputies Find 4-Month-Old Boy Abandoned in Oakland Co. Woods [VIDEO]
Officials in Oakland County are investigating a mother who allegedly left her four-month-old baby boy alone in the woods.
The abandoned boy was found Wednesday (4/7) morning in a wooded area in Lake Orion near the intersection of Joslyn and Waldon. He was taken to a nearby hosipital and is expected to make a full recovery.
But how did the boy get there?
Residents in the area tell Oakland County sheriff's deputies that a woman was wandering in the area ringing doorbells. Staff at nearby Waldon Middle School say the woman was frantically pounding on the school's locked doors.
When the disoriented woman was questioned, deputies were skeptical about her story and were able to determine that she had a baby, whose whereabouts were unknown. They began searching a one-square-mile section of woods between the neighborhood, the school, and the woman's home.
"Thankfully, deputies were able to determine a baby was missing, which triggered an immediate large response and search, and they were able to locate the child," Sheriff Michael Bouchard tells Detroit TV station WJBK. "Their quick work avoided what could have been an unspeakable tragedy."
The sheriff's office believes the boy's mother may have been abusing prescription drugs. They're seeking a warrant in order to arrest her on child abuse charges. The child is currently in the custody of child protective services.
