In-Person Classes Resume at MSU This Fall

I can still remember hearing MSU students talking; they were very surprised that they were closing the classrooms on the Michigan State University campus. Students were told to go home March 11th, that all of their classes would be online from that point until it was safe to bring students back. The Covid-19 virus changed everything on campuses all across the state. Not only were all schools and non-essential daycare closed, so were all of our universities.

With the pandemic going on, there has been a lot of uncertainty on campuses all over Michigan. With all of schools and colleges now closed, the big question is when will in person classes resume? And what about college sports this fall? Some schools have already announced the cancellation of some of their sports for the rest of the year.

The Detroit News reports Michigan State University students will be coming back to in person classes this fall. MSU President Samuel Stanley announced today. "At this point, we believe that a values-driven return is possible and can be done in a way that mitigates the risks to our community," Stanley wrote in a letter to the campus community. Classes will begin Sept. 2 and will include in-person and online components. In-person instruction will end Nov. 25, before Thanksgiving, with the remainder of the semester conducted virtually.

The campus will include physical distancing, mask-wearing and restrictions on large gatherings, Stanley said.

• Albion College: In-person classes.
• Alma College: In-person classes.
• Calvin College: – In-person classes.
• Central Michigan University: In-person classes.
• Eastern Michigan University: In-person classes.
• Ferris State University: In-person classes.
• Gogebic Community College: Some in-person and some online classes.
• Grand Valley State University: In-person classes.
• Hillsdale College: In-person classes
• Jackson College: fully online for the fall semester.
• Lake Superior State University: In-person classes.
• Lansing Community College: Most classes online-only; courses with required hands-on labs will be held on campus.
• Madonna University: In-person classes.
• Michigan Tech: In-person classes
• Mid-Michigan College: In-person classes
• Montcalm Community College: In-person classes
• Northern Michigan University: In-person classes.
• Oakland University: A hybrid approach with many classes online, and those that are on campus moved to large rooms to allow students to keep social distance.
• Saginaw Valley State: In-person classes
• Spring Arbor University: In-person classes
• University of Detroit Mercy: Hybrid of online and in-person classes
• Walsh College: Student choice of in-person, online or hybrid.
• Western Michigan University: In-person classes
