Coast Guard Festival Returns to Grand Haven in 2021
This very popular event returns this year after a pandemic cancellation last year. The U.S. Coast Guard Festival will return for its 9 day event in Grand Haven from July 30 to August 7. This has been a much anticipated event every year on the shores of Lake Michigan. Most events will return, a few will not.
“The Coast Guard Festival is Grand Haven,” said city council member Mike Fritz. “That’s what puts us on the map.” The festival will return with most of the usual favorites, including the Parade of Ships and tours, concerts at the waterfront stadium, car show, YMCA Coast Guard 5K/10K run, art fair, the grand parade and fireworks.
The other normal yearly events not happening this year are the kids parade, the water ball competition and food for Kids day. The Mulligans Hollow Softball tournament will only be one day this year, which is August 4.
They have also added the courthouse parking lot for a car show. Much of the Skerbeck Carnival will move to Chinook Pier, with more rides at the Harbourfront Place parking area. The Grand Haven City Council approved alcohol sales at the stadium with music permitted until 11pm. Camping at the festival is also permitted, so you can just show up and stay for the whole festival.
Here are some of the events happening in the 2021 U.S. Coast Guard Festival:
August 1 Cruise In Car Show on in parking lot next to courthouse
August 1 Community Picnic Ferrysburg’s Coast Guard Park
August 2 A Parade of ships from 1-3pm
August 3 is Kids Day
August 3 Grand City Skiers Ski Show Lynne Sherwood Stadium 7pm
August 3 Street Dance with Brena on Washington between 3rd and 4th Street 8:30
August 4 is Seniors Day
August 6-7 Craft Show & Art Fair
August 7 Grand Parade at 11:45am
August 7 Fireworks on Dewey Hill at 10pm
The Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival has been a Michigan tradition since 1924 with an average of 350,000 people attending each year. It’s always a fun event, and after the past year, I’m sure people will appreciate it even more. For more information and the complete schedule of events click here. Read the article from MLive
