Emmett Township

Emmett Township crews were called to the river near Paddler’s Grove between Golden Ave. and Columbia Ave. just after 10pm Thursday; the callers said they were lost floating on the river.

The chase began after Emmett Township officers were called to a medical emergency, but the driver sped off when they arrived, reportedly striking a medic on the scene.

The bills are sponsored by Republican Representatives Beau LaFave and Pamela Hornberger, and co-sponsors include local Emmett Township Representative Matt Hall.

43-year-old Edwin Walker was arraigned Wednesday on a charge related to his escape from jail, a charge that could carry up to six years in prison; he could get even more than that as several other crimes were committed during the alleged flight.

The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office says that during this polar vortex weather that at times saw wind chills as low as -40 degrees F, they received reports of barking dogs left outside an Emmett Township property that appeared to be in distress.

The Michigan State Police confirmed one of the trucks rear ended the other, causing a fire. One of the semi drivers was killed in the accident, while the other was unhurt.
