Number Of Guns Seized At Airport Checkpoints Jumped In 2020
Last year, there was a decrease in travelers in the United States, but there was a hike in guns seized at checkpoints.
It was announced that 3,257 firearms on passengers or in their carry-on bags in 2020, which is about 10 in every million travelers. This report coming from the Transportation Security Administration.
Of those numbers, about 83% were loaded firearms. That was double the numbers from 2019.
220 firearms were retrieved from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, with the most guns seized in 2020. Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport came in second place with 176 guns.
Federal law prohibits passengers other than law enforcement from bringing guns or ammunition on board a flight, however, unloaded firearms are permitted in check bags that go through the cargo hold, according to WILX.
