Michigan, Where do we Rank in Best States Rankings?
Once again US News and World Report has come out with their annual Best States Rankings, where does Michigan land in that analysis?
Well, let us first find out what US News and World Reports used to rank the states. According to the news outlet they stated that:
The Best States ranking of U.S. states draws on thousands of data points to measure how well states are performing for their citizens. In addition to health care and education, the metrics take into account a state’s economy, the opportunity and quality of life it offers people, its roads, bridges, internet and other infrastructure, its public safety and the fiscal stability of state government.
They went on to inform us that some data points received a heavy weight in their rankings. The stated that health care and education were weighted the heaviest and then came:
- state economies
- the opportunity states offer their citizens
- the quality of a state’s infrastructure
- crime & corrections
- measures of government fiscal stability
- and finally people's quality of life
