Michigan State Football Honors Oxford High School’s Tate Myre
On the first day of the early signing period for college football recruits, Michigan State University honored the late former Oxford H.S. football star Tate Myre by making him their honorary first commitment for the class of 2022 on Wednesday.
Myre (who was only 16 years old) was one of the four Oxford High School students who was killed in the shooting tragedy on November 30th.

Tate, who had taken recruiting visits to schools like Toledo, helped the Oxford Wildcats to a 6-5 record this past season. And also a berth in the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Division 1 district finals, where they lost to Rochester Adams 42-7.
University of Michigan football also honored Myre with a patch on their jerseys for the Big Ten Championship Game, in which they crushed Iowa 42-3. And Tate's parents were present for the coin toss before the title game in Indianapolis' Lucas Oil Stadium.
Michigan State (and most other schools) will announce the majority of their incoming recruiting class on Wednesday afternoon. The early signing period is three days long (December 15-17), while the late signing period begins in February.
The Spartans (10-2) will begin preparation for the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl very soon, as their game against Atlantic Coast Conference champion Pittsburgh (11-2) is coming up on December 30th at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, in which MSU is a slight favorite. Pittsburgh is coached by former Michigan State assistant coach Pat Narduzzi.
