The Detroit Free Press is reporting that Michigan State Senior Left Tackle Cole Chewins is not on the season opening depth chart due to an injury.

MSU Coach Mark Dantonio released the depth chart for Friday's opening game against Tulsa on Tuesday. He said during his press conference that Chewins will not play Friday due to a back injury. Dantonio described Chewins' timeline for return as "sort of on a day-to-day basis."

According to the report, this will be the fourth straight year that that a new starting left tackle has been named ahead of the season opener. Chewins also missed last season's opener when Utah State visited Spartan Stadium. He did end up starting nine games at left tackle last season, after seeing limited field time in the early weeks of 2018.

The next man up is junior lineman A.J. Arcuri. Arcuri is a 6-7, 306 pound fourth year player. Friday will be his first career start. Arcuri redshirted in 2016, missed 2017 with an injury, and played with the special teams kicking units last season.

Other depth chart surprises include junior Matt Allen listed as co-starter at center along with former walk-on, sophomore Blake Bueter. Senior Tyler Higby, coming off of offseason surgery, is listed as the starter at left guard.
