According to the Lansing State Journal, the economic effects of a national United Auto Workers strike are spreading across Greater Lansing, and suppliers to General Motors have begun laying off employees.

About 4,400 General Motors employees who work at the Lansing Grand River Assembly, Lansing Delta Assembly and related operations went on strike beginning early Monday morning.

Overall, suppliers to General Motors employ approximately 6,590 people in Greater Lansing.

Most of those employees work in manufacturing, but at least several hundred in the Lansing region contribute to the GM supply chain through warehousing and storage.

Despite the disruptions, area car dealers are confident that they can weather the strike. Please click on the above link for more information.
