Pretty soon, there will be no coal burning power plants in Lansing. According to a report from WLNS.com, Lansing Board of Water and Light officials have announced plans to shut down the Erickson Power Plant in Delta Township by 2025.

Previously, officials set forth a plan to close the utility's other coal plant, the Eckert Station south of Downtown Lansing. The closures are part of a plan to reduce emissions and power the city with green energy. BWL has been receiving pressure from the Sierra Club to follow through on a deal to improve the utility's green energy plans.

According to the WLNS story, BWL expects to be operating with 30 percent green energy sources by 2020; 40 percent by 2030.
