What's the Weather Going to Be Like in Michigan This Thanksgiving?

Forecasters are currently expecting weather conditions to deteriorate across much of Lower Michigan during the day on Wednesday - a day when a lot of holiday travelers are hitting the road.

Temperatures in places like LansingGrand Rapids, and Flint may struggle to climb above freezing on Wednesday and Thanksgiving Day, and there may be enough moisture around to support some Thanksgiving snow around the region.

Accuweather Chief Meteorologist Jon Porter advises those of us in Michigan to keep an eye on this developing system:

This can be a concerning setup for holiday travelers given that the risk for lake-effect snow showers and squalls poorly timed with the Thanksgiving holiday and times when people are typically traveling for Thanksgiving, notably Wednesday. We recommend people check back frequently with the AccuWeather forecast over the coming days, especially if they have any travel plans around the Thanksgiving holiday near the Great Lakes.

 

How Much Snow Could Michigan Get for Thanksgiving?

While it's still too early to know for sure, Accuweather projects much of Lower Michigan could see some accumulating snow just in time for Thanksgiving, and it'll likely be windy too.

The agency's current long-range forecast predicts an inch or less in Flint and Lansing, while Grand Rapids' proximity to Lake Michigan could see a couple inches of lake-effect snow fall in the city.

Confidence in the forecast will grow as Thanksgiving draws closer.
