Farmers Markets Will Still Open This Year
There will be some changes but plans are for farmers markets in our area to open within the next 4 to 6 weeks. According to WILX, the Michigan Farmers Market Association (MIFMA) which gives guidelines to markets when they should open, are saying that most markets are going to open on time, June 4th, and some opening a few weeks after that. East Lansing have said they will be opening their market on time.
When farmers markets do open there will be some changes and some regulations that they hope all people will abide by. There will be several hand sanitizing stations located around all farmers markets all with customers and vendors wearing face masks which will be enforced for at least the first month of opening. MIFMA will also encourage markets to limit the number of customers at one time and limit the amount of people that touch products.
Farmers markets around the state are thinking there will be more traffic at markets this season due to meats, eggs, fruits and vegetables being limited at grocery stores. You can see more about what the MIFMA has to say about markets this season here.
