E. Lansing Summer Solstice Jazz Fest Goes Virtual This Weekend
It's a safe bet that this summer, pretty much for the rest of the year, you should double check to see if any event you planned to attend has been cancelled or postponed.
Most concerts and festivals nationwide have been put on hold or pushed to next year. From Coachella to Bonnaroo. Even locally with Common Ground and the Jackson County Fair.
Add one more to the list. But not entirely.
The 2020 Summer Solstice Jazz Festival in East Lansing is proceeding but VIRTUALLY.

The City of East Lansing and SSJF Advisory Board have planned a virtual, livestream event, which will take place on Friday, June 19 and Saturday, June 20 at 6 p.m. via the SSJF’s Facebook page and YouTube channel. (City of East Lansing)
The livestream event will take place over two days and feature a greatest hits of sorts from festivals past.
On Friday, festival patrons will enjoy performances by the Rodney Whitaker Quintet, Ramona Collins, Sunny Wilkinson, Ben Williams & Sound Effect, Cyrille Aimee, Chicago Jazz Orchestra, Orquesta Ritmo, Airmen of Note and Guitar Summit featuring Randy Napoleon, Dave Stryker and Peter Bernstein.
On Saturday, festival patrons will enjoy performances by Guitar Summit, Orquesta Ritmo, Bria Skonberg, Rodney Whitaker & Soul R Energy, Airmen of Note, Carl Cafagna & North Star Jazz, Cyrille Aimee, Diego Rivera, Michael Dease Quintet and Chicago Jazz Orchestra.(City of East Lansing)
Look at it this way. You avoid the crowds, you stay safe, and you can enjoy the best the festival has had to offer (from years past) in the comfort of your own home. As loud as you want.
Social distancing is no problem, no lines to get to the adult refreshments, and your bathroom is unobstructed (no port-a-potties).
So set up your own wine and cheese platter. Or prep you own private barbecue to the sounds of some serious jazz.
And HOPEFULLY, we'll see you next year for the live IN PERSON event.
Stay safe.
