Michigan’s DTE Energy Music Theatre Changes Its Name Again
It's baaaaaack. But did it ever really leave?
Today (Friday, January 14th, 2022), DTE Energy Music Theatre made a very important announcement regarding its name. The big news?
DTE Energy Music Theatre is returning to its iconic, original name: Pine Knob.
DTE Energy Music Theatre Goes Back to Original Name; Pine Knob
I don't know about you, but as a Michigander, I never really stopped calling it Pine Knob. Always has been and always will be Pine Knob for me. Not even visiting artists quit calling it Pine Knob. In a Billboard article, the president of 313 Presents, Howard Handler, had this to say:
Night after night, performers come on stage and say ‘Hello Pine Knob!’ We know that there was a lot of passion and a lot of really great connection to all of that, so it was just a question of could we strike the right balance and deliver something meaningful back to the community and be true to our business.
Pine Knob Music Theatre is Back
The Detroit Free Press reports that the name change comes as DTE's 20-year naming deal came to a close. Back in 2001, the Clarkston amphitheater was redubbed the DTE Energy Music Theatre. Now, things are going back to yesteryear... Trinity Health and United Wholesale Mortgage now own the naming rights, and they decided that Pine Knob should return to its roots.
It's so cool that Pine Knob is throwing it back to "the old days", which really aren't even that old. I especially love the way they captured the retro style of the original logo in the new one, with the cool font and colors.
Truly, I cannot wait to attend my first concert back at Pine Knob. It's going to be an experience for the books. Let us know how excited you are by sending us a message with the station app.
In the meantime, check out some concert pictures below from back when it was still, "DTE Energy Music Theatre".
