Dr. Ben Carson, Not for reporting, but on Monday we are putting out a notice soliciting the public to comment on an Obama era rule
Dr. Ben Carson is an American politician, author and former neurosurgeon serving as the 17th and current United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development since 2017, under the Trump Administration. Not for reporting, but on Monday we are putting out a notice soliciting the public to comment on an Obama era rule that has impeded the development and rehabilitation of affordable housing. In 2015, HUD published a regulation to get local governments to affirmative further fair housing (AFFH). But, the system they put in place was overly burdensome. In fact, more than a third of communities who submitted AFFH assessments under the Obama era regulation failed to produce an acceptable assessment—not for lack of trying but because the assessment tool intended to help them wasn’t helpful. And if a community fails to create a passing assessment it jeopardizes their access to HUD funds, hurting their ability to create more affordable housing
