Couple Who Caged Autistic Son Make Plea Deal
A Michigan couple accused of placing their 19 year-old autistic son in a cage in their home have made a plea deal with Paris Township authorities.
Karen and Timothy Tolin have plead no contest to charges of unlawful imprisonment in a Huron County District Court in Bad Axe, Michigan. They will face sentencing on March 9th. In exchange for pleading no contest prosecutors in the case dropped charges of vulnerable adult abuse against each of them.
During a call to the Tolin's home in October Sheriff Kelly J. Hanson said they found a 19-year-old locked in a bedroom. It appeared the adopted son of the couple had been caged for a while in the home located about 90 miles north of Detroit.
After finding the boy the authorities removed three other adults and two children. The home was not a licensed care facility.
