What’s Happening in Michigan This Weekend: Cars, Boats, & More
A partly sunny weekend in the mid-80s in mid-September? That's our forecast. That means it's a perfect weekend to get out and do something in Michigan!
Here are some fun events you'll find happening within a couple hours' drive of Lansing.
Michigan Irish Music Festival
The Michigan Irish Music Festival is underway through Sunday at Heritage Landing in downtown Muskegon. The event promises six stages of Irish music, culture, dance and more. Add in ample opportunities for shopping and eating, and you've got some fun!
Metro Boat Show
The Metro Boat Show is underway through Sunday at Lake St. Clair Metropark. Check out hundreds of boats in water and on land. In the market to buy a boat? You can do that too! Crafts ranging from 10 to 60+ feet in length will be on display. Tour the Pride of Michigan, a 68' training ship that's part of the Great Lakes Division (a component of the US Naval Sea Cadet Corps), and cruise aboard the Spirit of Lake St. Clair as well. Live music and craft beers are part of the event as well.
ArtPrize 2022
ArtPrize 2022, the international artist competition in Grand Rapids, is underway now through October 2. Various forms of art are on display throughout the city in public parks and museums, in galleries and vacant storefronts, in bars and on bridges. Help decide which artists are awarded a portion of $250,000 in grants!
Detroit Concours d'Elegance
Comerica Park in Detroit plays host to Detroit Concours d'Elegance this Saturday and Sunday (September 17-18). Organizers invite you to enjoy "a weekend-long tribute to the people who designed, built and drove American car culture, and to the vehicles at its heart." It's part car show, part educational event and part party. A highlight is the Concours d'Lemons - a fan favorite collection of decidedly uninspiring vehicles.
Detroit Auto Show
The granddaddy of all auto shows, the Detroit Auto Show, is underway now through September 25. This year's show is both indoors and outdoors throughout Motor City, with new vehicle displays and exhibits at Huntington Place, Hart Plaza and several other locations. The event will feature ride-and-drive experiences, air mobility demonstrations, family-fun experiences, musical entertainment, auto enthusiast car clubs, street food and much more.
Michigan Renaissance Festival
The Michigan Renaissance Festival continues Saturdays and Sundays through October 2 in Holly. This weekend's theme is "Shamrocks & Shenanigans". Irish music and dance? Yes. Men in kilts? Yeah, plenty of them too. You'll encounter live jousting, sword fighting, and belly dancing as well.
Frankenfest
Frankenfest is slated for Detroit's historic Fort Wayne on Saturday (September 17) from 11am to 7pm. Organizers pledge mad, magical and mystical artwork from the area's most intriguing vendors stitched together with a showcase of literary guests, haunt aficionados and paranormal experts.
