We reported to you on the beginning of these quarantines this past Wednesday, and now the Ingham County health department has expanded the quarantines to 11 other large houses. All residents of these properties have been ordered to quarantine for the next two weeks. Ingham County Health Department mandated the quarantine by Emergency Order Thursday afternoon. More properties can be added as needed.

WILX reports “The current situation deeply concerns me for the MSU (Michigan State University) and East Lansing communities,” said Ingham County Health Officer Linda S. Vail. “Beyond that, our inability to contain this extremely elevated level of transmission will set back other communities, services and businesses in the county. Ingham County has the highest COVID-19 risk in the entire state of Michigan. We are truly in a crisis, especially in East Lansing. We must do all we can to contain the outbreak.”

Just since September 1st, East Lansing has seen a 315 percent increase in total case count. Many of these increases are driven mostly by outbreaks from MSU students. Of all the properties now quarantined, 25 are fraternity and sorority houses, 14 others are large rental houses.

Here is a listing of all the quarantined houses in East Lansing provided by the Ingham County Health Department:

The best way to stop these outbreaks is to follow the guidelines of social distancing, wearing a mask when in public, and washing your hands. I know we are all getting tired of hearing that, but it really does work. And it really is important!
