The State of Michigan has paid out more than $85 million in 2013 to people and companies that sued the state.  Ranging anywhere from $42 to $41 million.

The total amount of lawsuit losses were $9.5 million more that the previous year, that is about a 12% increase.

There were a total of 71 lawsuits that Michigan ended up paying taxpayers dollars to and 27 of them were from the Corrections Department.
