Will the Tigers Have Enough Players for Opening Day Friday?
Ah, finally, baseball is back and we can all feel good about singing Take Me Out To The Ball Game again, right Harry Carey?
Baseball's opening Day is today for many clubs, but for the the Detroit Tigers and others, it's tomorrow, Friday, April 8 at Comerica Park against the White Sox.
I'm worried they won't get the game in though. For one thing, the weather is pretty iffy with a 50% chance of rain and a high of 45 forecast. But also, good grief, there are six players who are injured and out for from 10 to 60-days. Will they have enough players?
It got so bad that the Tigers, who were supposed to wrap up spring training Wednesday, had to cancel the game because of a lack available pitching! Okay, you're going to say that's been their problem for years, but seriously, that was the reason, so they decided to save everyone for Friday.
Tiger Pitcher Tarik Skubal
Check this out. RHP (right handed pitcher) Spencer Turnbull added to 60-day injured list with right elbow sprain. RHP Kyle Funkhouser added to 10-day injured list with right shoulder strain. LHP Andrew Chafin placed on 10-day injured list, retroactive to April 4 with left groin strain. Man, we haven't even started the season yet.
There are other injuries, but not too worry, the Tigers have added some great prospects to their roster.
Tigers Miguel Cabrera
The good news is for Friday's home opener, Miggy is back, but as a DH, and the Tigers have added:
Spencer Torkelson added to the 40-man roster
RHP Will Vest added to 40-man roster
RHP Jacob Barnes added to 40-man roster
RHP Drew Hutchison added to 40-man roster
Recalled RHP Elvin Rodriguez from Double-A Erie
Victor Martinez Home Run
The Tigers have said they have finished the "re-build" and should field a winning team. Let's hope so. Hope Springs eternal!
