Grand Valley State University men's basketball entered the GLIAC conference tournament as underdogs and they left as champions.

GVSU is 19-12 this season and they are getting hot at the right time. The Lakers have won three straight games and seven of their last eight, but none will be more memorable then Saturday's buzzer-beater.

A diving pass, an indecisive basketball and a wild celebration. It's going to be another fun March for basketball fans.

Saturday's game against Parkside was the conference tournament semifinal. The win put GVSU into the conference championship against Davenport, but since Davenport is NCAA tournament ineligible as a second-year program, the winner of the GVSU/Parkside semifinal received an automatic birth into the NCAA Division II tournament.

GVSU settled any questions by beating Davenport to win the conference tournament on Sunday, in a less dramatic fashion, by a score of 80-70.

GVSU will enter the NCAA Division II tournament as a No. 8 seed and they'll be playing a No. 1 seed (Lewis) in their first game which will be played in Romeoville, Illinois, on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. The Division II tournament starts with 64 teams, but there are eight regionally divided groups of teams seeded from No. 1 - No. 8. Teams are combined and re-seeded for the quarterfinals.

Grand Valley is set to be underdogs again, but after their finish on Saturday and the way they've been playing lately, don't count the Lakers out of anything.
