U-M Shuts Out FSU To Advance To CWS Semis
The Michigan Wolverine baseball team advanced to the College World Series semifinals with a 2-0 victory over the Florida State Seminoles at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska on Monday night.
Wolverine starting pitcher Tommy Henry was the story of the night. He threw a complete game, three-hit shutout to get the victory. He walked none and struck out 10 Seminole batters on exactly 100 pitches on the evening.
Henry got all the offense he needed in the very first inning. As outfielder Jesse Franklin hit an absolute bomb into the right field stands to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead. Michigan added to it with a key two-out RBI single by first baseman Jimmy Kerr in the fifth inning.
Michigan will face either Texas Tech or Florida State in the semifinals on Friday night. Michigan only needs one win to qualify for the Championship Series next week, while either the Red Raiders or Seminoles will have to beat the Wolverines twice to make it to the finals.
