Michigan State University and the University of Michigan have been long considered standouts in this state.  But now a new study puts numbers on their distinction.

MLive.com is reporting that a survey of the top 100 universities in the world, shows both state universities making the list.

The U of M at number 14 and MSU at 75.

The survey was done by U.S. News and World report.

The rankings took into consideration a number of factors including global reputation--or enrollment numbers--regional research reputation and publications.

The article shows Princeton University getting the top spot, followed by Harvard and Yale.

MSU was also recognized in the top 100 by the Times Higher Education world university rankings.
