We all love to get the family together and head to the Upper Peninsula when the weather gets nice, and that means a trip across the Mighty Mac.
We enjoy travelling and vacationing when it’s warm and not snowing, and so do road and bridge construction crews. It’s really the only time of year they can get their repairs done and the ground isn’t frozen.

The Mackinac Bridge Authority has passed on a warning to drivers to be extra cautious this summer when travelling across the Mackinac Bridge due to workers on the bridge. Mackinac Bridge Authority executive Secretary Kim Nowack understands the views are spectacular, but cautions drivers to pay extra attention when driving through work zones on the bridge.

The MBA says the peak traffic times tend to be from 2 to 6 p.m. on Fridays, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays. Even without closures and every toll booth open, delays are common during those times due to the volume of cars trying to cross the bridge. “Our toll workers are always doing the best they can to get drivers through the toll booths as quickly as possible,” Nowack said. “We just ask that customers exercise their patience as they approach the booths.”

They do their best not to schedule work zones during peak traffic times and holidays, but sometimes it just can’t be helped. Be patient, drive carefully, and once you are on the other side of the bridge, you are in paradise, so all should be good!
