One time state lawmaker Mike Bishop wants the job Mike Rogers will soon be leaving. That's what Bishop told us not long after Rogers said he's departing Washington to pursue a career in syndicated talk radio.

Now Rogers has announced he'd like Bishop to succeed him.  Rogers calls Bishop a "proven conservative leader".  Analysts agree this early endorsement could easily discourage other Republicans from getting into the race.  Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett is the only other candidate to announce for the 8th District Congressional seat.

Bishop is now working for International Bancard Corporation where he's chief legal officer.
