On December 14, 1836, the Toledo War unofficially ended which granted the Toledo Strip to Ohio while Michigan acquired the timber and ore-rich upper peninsula.
A result of the Toledo War, Michigan's Lost Peninsula is home to about 140 residents who must first travel through Ohio in order to get back to the Mitten.
