Last year about this time in West Michigan in the Grand Rapids area there was a lot of flooding. With concerns the same sort of thing could happen this spring as well the city is buying quite a few more sandbags--about 50,000 more. It's unknown if they will be needed but officials are saying they want to have them on hand in the event they are. The experts are saying Grand River water levels are running higher now then they were last spring.  Also they say now that they have so many additional sandbags if there is serious flooding in the days, weeks, months and years to come they'll be well prepared.

So at this point while there's no telling if things will get any worse, a few days ago the part of the Grand River that runs through the downtown area did overflow along its banks.
