Some say the words "Under God" should not be a part of the Pledge of Allegiance. They say it runs contrary to the First Amendment by supporting religion. However, State Senator Rick Jones argues those words--quote--"gave our nation strength to persevere and are the threads that hold us together."

 He says they should be "safeguarded in the pledge as a testament to the founding ideals that led America to prosperity". That's why he says he's backing a proposed Michigan legislative resolution calling on Congress to keep those two words--"Under God"--in the pledge forever.
