Sony decided not to release the movie nationwide in theaters on Christmas Day due to threats made to audiences.  Instead the movie was released on Google Play, YouTube, XBox and www.seetheinterview.com.

Michael Moore's Bijou by the Bay in Traverse City made special arrangements to show the movie at 9:15 a.m. and 11:55 p.m.

According to a Facebook post on Moore's page it is important to "stand against bullies and censors."

The movie also showed on Christmas in Scio Township at the Goodrich Quality 16 and in Ann Arbor at the State Theater.
